2. SET A BUDGET AND STICK TO IT. Dapat realistic. If you are working on a tight budget, you should consider EVERYTHING! Airfare, airport taxes and terminal fees, hotel accommodation, food, transportation and shopping money. It’s good din if you have a contingency fund.

Package Tours- ‘Wag basta magpadala sa mga nababasang cheap package abroad sa mga newspapers o internet. I check mabuti ang inclusions at kung may mga hidden charges. Get a detailed quotation. Kasama na ba don ang airport transfers? Breakfast? Anong klaseng hotel? (Mag-internet ka at I check ang location ng hotel. Baka kasi nasa far flung area itetch or chuffangga talaga). Pumili ng hotel na malapit sa mga MRT or public transport stations. ‘Wag ng magpaka-sosy sa hotel, tutulugan mo lang naman ‘yan at your mostly out naman during your vacaycay.

Tip: Kung buffet brakfast ang inclusion sa package, magpaka-busog. Kumain ng brunch o one –hour before mag close ang buffet para hindi ka na gumastos mag- lunch. Hihihi!

Yang mga package tours na yan usually ay may mga kasamang land tours sa destination mo. Baka mamaya, dadalhin ka lang sa mga areas na hindi naman interesante sa ‘yo like jewelry stores, etc. At pagdating mo sa areas na yon, gagastos ka sa mga compulsory souvenirs (i.e. picture mo na naka-print sa plato). Pag hindi ka naman join, paysung ka ng penalty. Be cautious about this.

If you have a detailed quotation na, and then ask at least 3 other travel agencies to quote for the same package. You’ll be surprise minsan sa mga diperensya or sa mase- save mo. Or, on your own, book the same package. Direct ka sa airline (choose different airlines). Ganon din sa hotel. Sometimes, may discount ang mga advance bookings.

Tip: Very early and late flights are usually cheap. Hotel check-in is usually 2pm. Kaya i- weigh in mo na lang ang importance at masi save mo. Pero pwede mo naman iwan muna sa c concierge ng hotel ang bagahe para maka-larga agad.

Kung may relatives ka sa pupuntahan mo st super duper close kayo, well, good for you. But I prefer not to make abala kasi with friends and relatives not unless they offer.

3. MAKE YOUR OWN ITINERARY. Instead of relying sa mga agency itineraries, mas type ko na gumawa ng sarili kong itinerary. At least, mama maximize ko ang oras ko at budget. At kung magkaligaw-ligaw ka man gaya ko, I enjoy mo lang. Explore the area. Isa kang turista ateh!

I-research mo sa internet ang mga tourist destinations. Read the reviews. If you like it, i- sama sa list. And then, hanapin ang iba pang tourist destination na malapit sa area na ‘yon at i-sama na sa schedule para hindi ka pabalik-balik sa iisang lugar.

If you have an itinerary, you will know more or less how many days you need para sa vacaycay mo.

VISA. You don’t need a VISA prior when you travel sa mga neighboring countries. Some states issue visa on arrival. Gaya ng pumunta kami sa Schenzhen, China. Sa immigration ka na lang tatatakan kung how many days ka allowed mag-stay. If you are a Pinoy and a Phillipine Passport holder, at you will travel sa mga bansang itetch, NO VISA required ateh. Tip: When you travel, dress naman appropriately mga ditse. Hindi tayo pupunta sa Divisoria kaya forget the tsinelas kahit Havaiannas pa ‘yan. It is your opportunity to impress pero wag naman din over. Specially sa airport, casual chic ba 'teh.

I had an experience sa HK immigration when a Pinoy was questioned at ang tagal nya sa immigration because ang outfit ng lolo ay butas butas na white t-shirt, maong shorts at super old na rubber shoes. Baka isipin ng immigration manlilimos ka lang. Hihihi.

4. FOREX: I research mo sa internet kung saan mataas ang palitan ng dolyar bago ka pa man umalis ng Pinas. That way, mama maximize mo ang value ng pera mo. Better if you have few local currencies na rin with you aside from US Dollar. At magtabi ka rin ng Peso noh. Uuwi ka pa rin kaya ng Pinas at ang pambayad mo sa terminal fee sa NAIA ay in pesos din.

Tip: Based on my experience, mababa ang exchange rate sa mga airports at bangko.

5. TRAVEL LIGHT. Depende sa purpose ng byahe mo ay ang mga gamit na dadalhin mo. Kung mainit sa destination, bring shorts. Flaunt those legs. Pero be sensitive about their culture din. Wag ng magbitbit ng jacket or makakapal na damit kung hindi naman kalamigan sa pupuntahan. Kung 3 days ka lang. Magdala ng gamit na pang 3 days lang, ok? Bring a pair of comfortable rubber shoes and a digital camera (don’t forget the charger).

Tip: Don’t forget to bring basic medicine na hiyang ka like pang diarrhea, headache and your vitamins. Just in case na kailanganinmo. Mahirap maghanap ng Mercury Drug. Hihihi!

Also, DO NOT check-in your valuables. Keep it with your hand-carried luggage. Kung may ka-artehan at gustong magdala ng laptop, bitbit mo rin ito. Ibukod din ang mga travel documents (passport, tickets, etc.)

Kung manghihiram ka ng luggage, linisin mo muna. Make sure lang na hindi drug trafficker ang nahiraman mo kasi, kahit paraphernalia lang yan, baka ma chorva ka sa customs.

Provide space sa mga pasalubong. Or bring another bag. Make sure na hindi ka ma-excess baggage or else paysung ka.

6. SHOPPING. Don’t buy anything na meron din sa Pinas. I have this friend who bought nothing but Giordano items from HK. Haller?!? Kahit pa sale ang Giordano sa HK, very minimal ang price difference nyan dito sa Pinas. Kumakain lang ng space sa luggage mo ‘yan. At, matuto kang tumawad ng vonggang vongga sa mga bargain shops.

Sa Vietnam ay karaniwan ng mabibili ang mga local wine na may nakababad na ahas sa loob. Daming tourists ang na-e-engganyong bumili nito. Kung type mo syang bilhin, baka maging problema yan sa customs. Kasi baka protected wildlife/specie yan. Multa ka ateh!

Tip: I suggest that you buy a memento that will remind you of the city or country.

7. FOOD TRIP. When you travel, you immense yourself with their culture. And the best way to do that is to experience yung food nila kaya haller, forget Mc Donalds and 7-11. Enjoy the hawker food stalls at lumafang ng kakaibang putahe.
